Laps For Lexi 2016
7th Annual Laps For Lexi on September 24, 2016.
New message from Laps for Lexi
Each year on the last Saturday of September, which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we come together under the banner of Laps for Lexi to stand with families facing childhood cancer today, remember the young lives like our 8-year old Lexi Speight who were taken too soon, and rededicate ourselves to combating this terrible illness.
Laps for Lexi is a vibrant celebration - fun for the entire family. On Saturday, September 24th the beautiful campus of Sandy Spring Friends School will be adorned with many of Lexi's favorite things - gorgeous purple balloons, baskets overflowing with homemade cookies, the option to have your nails polished by Nail Girlz, chicken sandwiches from Chick Fil A, a moonbounce, a bounty of delicious breads and baked goods available from Upper Crust Bakery, and hundreds of people running or walking along 5K or 1-mile trails on campus. Without a doubt the spirits of attendees are nourished by the grace, good will and positivity of the event all while raising money for an important cause and in honor of a special girl!
We hope you will join us at the 7th Annual Laps for Lexi on Saturday, September 24th starting at 8am. Funds raised will support the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's National Medical Center as well as the Lexi Speight Scholarship fund at SSFS.
Please remember that we are collecting crayons and markers for the 4th Floor (Oncology Unit) Art Room...a haven for patients and their siblings/friends. Your donation will help brighten the day of a child!

L4L Dinner in PA:
What a great night! Many thanks to all of the wonderful Laps for Lexi supporters who gathered on June 11 in Devon, PA for a fund-raising dinner organized by Lexi's grandmother. The crowd enjoyed fabulous entertainment by Blue Sky band along with Davis and Madison Gestiehr (who always sing at the Laps for Lexi race in September). A big shout out to the local businesses whose donations helped make the evening possible (not to mention tasty!) - dinner by Jimmy’s BBQ restaurant, wine from Penns Woods Winery (Eddystone, PA), beer from Boxcar Brewery (West Chester, PA), and desserts by Alfredo’s restaurant (Berwyn, PA). A silent auction chock-full of items from restaurants, cosmetic companies, medical professionals, and photographers, all contributed to the final total of over $11,000 for Laps for Lexi! We are thrilled and grateful. Thank you to everyone who honored Lexi and our family by attending/donating. You make Laps for Lexi possible.
Brewster Butler and SSFS Varsity Mens Basketball Team Support Laps for Lexi:
Big shout out to Brewster Butler '16, who is part of the L4L family, for organizing a fundraiser for us at the Sandy Spring Friends School varsity basketball game on 2/5/16. He promised the packed gym that if $1000 was raised by halftime, he and Jake Crim ‘16 would shave their heads! Our fabulous community enthusiastically rose to the occasion by contributing over $1600 for L4L! We are blown away. Thank you Brewster – you are an example that one person can make a difference. We also want to thank Coach Parker and the entire SSFS basketball team for all their love and support, and the huge, boisterous, and generous crowd who was thrilled to see SSFS dominate the game!
Diana Forbes TablerWe are very sad to say that we lost a beloved member of the Laps for Lexi family, Diana Tabler Forbes. Diana was not only a very close family friend, she was the person who encouraged the family to proceed with Laps for Lexi in 2010. Diana and her family continue their love and support for Laps for Lexi by asking all who adored Diana to donate to the charity closest to her heart, Laps for Lexi. Diana spoke at the 2014 race where she highlighted advances in cancer research that had identified drugs that had helped her cancer to go into remission. The Speight family sends all their love to the Forbes family who are committed to help children with cancer and their families.
